Hose Testing and Certification: Hydrostatic, Nitrogen, and NAHAD Tag-and-Trace
A hose assembly is a safety-critical component. Testing and certification prove it will hold pressure and give you the paper trail auditors and insurers expect.
Hydrostatic (Proof) Testing
In a hydrostatic test, the assembly is filled with water and pressurized, commonly to 1.5 times the working pressure, then held while it is checked for leaks, movement, and fitting slippage. Water is nearly incompressible, so the test is safe and confirms the assembly and fittings are sound before it ever sees service.
Nitrogen and Pneumatic Testing
For gas or dry service, a nitrogen or pneumatic test verifies the assembly holds under a compressed gas. Because gas stores energy, this is done with proper procedures and shielding. It is the right choice where water contamination is unacceptable.
NAHAD Tag-and-Trace
NAHAD, the association for hose assembly suppliers, promotes a design and fabrication standard with tag-and-trace documentation. Each assembly gets a unique tag linked to its build record - components, test results, and date - so you can prove specification and replace like-for-like.
